Back to Teacher mode for a while…
But before I started with my reflection, let me just say my thousand of apologize to aka our sifu for not updating my blog for so long. [Oh madam… so sorry…]
So what after teaching practice…
Of course the first thing was I miss my students >>> really really miss them despite them being so difficult sometimes<<<
Now let’s take about things I’ve learnt in teaching practice.
Patience
I would say teaching is a job that requires a lot of patience… and you just need to learn to adapt to people at sometimes. Also each teacher has a different way of imparting knowledge, that’s when the real problem comes in. Eg: That’s what you see; I don’t see it that way. Then blah blah blah and blah laaaa… and then it come to the point that you are tired of teaching or even explaining to someone else.
Learning takes place everywhere.
When I was teaching….I thought I should be good in my major which is teaching English, but I was wrong. I can teach students countless of things… from life, food, vege..new words… interesting people . So many things you know, not just English. It’s an amazing experience when you tell them something new and they try to ask you more about, because at least for one moment in your life, you light the spark of learning.
Do it because you need to not because you want to pass time
What does that mean? It means whatever you do, always be prepared. Have something on… have something to teach, have something interesting to bring into the class. Maybe I am just being traditional or so call very discipline… but I find it very hard to enter a class without a lesson planned out. It’s like doing something which you have no ideas about. How…?? I don’t know.. I really salute those people who can do that. But I always feel so much at peace when I have something plan out on my mind and my hand. Though the last week of teaching practice, I started to get lazy and wanted to just pass time when I go into the class….cause I know the lecturer won’t be coming, I know no one cares anymore.. Not even the schools or even the students…I am not even bothered at all by the syllabus or whatsoever. But deep down, inside my heart…I wanted to teach. I want to teach something before I leave. There’s so much I want to do with them but so little time. Sometimes I wish the classes for English lesson are longer so I can spend more time with them. It’s just like you want it to end, yet don’t want it to end.
Last on the list – Don’t rush learning…
Need I say more? I would say I am bless to come across students who are just starting to love their English lesson… but the things is… You can’t rush learning lesson. It’s ok if you don’t finish the lesson on time. It’s alright if they just learned to spell happy or birthday... It’s ok. At least I survived. Though sometimes there are tears here and there… but in the end… that’s why you are there… A teacher is born.
